Compression as structure. Vertical does not simply narrow conventional letterforms. Its proportions are designed around the vertical axis from the outset. Curves, counters, junctions and spacing are adjusted to function within an unusually restricted width, creating a consistent typographic texture across uppercase, lowercase and figures.
Character within constraint. Extreme proportions place greater importance on small decisions. Curves, apertures and terminals are carefully controlled so that individual forms remain identifiable even within Vertical’s compressed structure.
